Elevator Jib Door

Has anyone had experience with fabricating and installing a jib door for an elevator in a paneled wall?

Info about job: Single family residential home. The elevator door will be hinged, not sliding. This forces the door to be within 3/4" of the inside of the elevator shaft. 2x4 wall so a 4 9/16" jamb (5/8" sheetrock). The finish for the wall will be a raised panel construction to match the kitchen design. Floor to ceiling, entire width of the wall.

I have made and installed numerous jib doors in wainscoting panels and kitchens. The best ones are instances where the door swings in. This will need to swing out and meet all requirements for code (fire and elevator).

We made several elevator doors over the years. The typical had wide jambs to hold the wood door close to the elevator. The cab had its own door, usually pretty cheesy compared to what we were supplying. In later installs, I tried to set it up so only one outswing door, for a cleaner look and operation. But I could not get elevator people or builder on board. I usually sensed the home owners were unhappy with finished project.

 Since the door swings out, you'll need concealed hinges strong enough to handle the weight, like Soss or Tectus hinges. A pivot hinge could also work if properly recessed and reinforced.
