Tablets for PM's1/22/16
We are considering getting our project managers tablets for job site visits. Verifying measurements and details without flipping through pages and pages of paper sounds much more manageable. I am asking you folks what and how you have implemented this. I am wondering about hardware and whether live access to our server is necessary. The alternative would be copying the subject files and not needing wi-fi or data access. Any constructive comments appreciated. Thank you
I've been pushing this for years now!
The deals out there are affordable for tablets.
Up to date plans and spec's and not printing and delivering of same.. Ya, no brainer to me.
Access to the server is important! On so many levels...
We're finally doing it.
My humble opinion on the matter.
Now to find a good affordable Take-off program to do the basic's without breaking the bank...
We use an iPad mini for our guys to take measurements on. They primarily use 2 apps. Notability to take pictures, text notes, and finger drawings & MyMeasures Pro to take pictures and add dimensions. I made a single icloud account for the shop so everyones content can be seen by any other at any time. It's pretty handy.
Bluebeam can take a picture while you have the PDF open and annotate it to the PDF. Bluebeam runs on windows and IPADS, not androids. So if you table has a camera its pretty simple and easy
The Rep is coming in on Tuesday to discuss the Tablets.
Alan, thank you for the Heads-up on Bluebeam.
John, Can you talk to me about 'Cloud-based' please. My assumption is that all you need is WiFi to get or transfer info or files. Is this correct?
You are correct. Once all the devices have access to wifi they will sync up and you will be able to see any info recored on the other ipads. You may have to adjust some settings but it's very easy.
