Blum hinge installation question...
1/24/16
Greetings. I will be installing Blum compact 38N hinges in cherry cabinet doors that will be mounted on a face frame cabinet. My past project doors were MDF so I used hinges with dowels and these have worked well. I ordered hinges for this project with dowels and now wonder whether I should not be using dowels in solid wood. So before I go drilling my doors I would appreciate some advice from those more experienced than I. Thank you in advance for the advice. Joe

I use Salice Logica toolless insertion.
Blum offers the Inserta.
Use dowels if you like to work more.
Use screws if you like to work a lot more.
Really depends on your boring equipment.

Thanks. Not using the Inserta hinges as I already bought the 38N with dowels. Just wanted to know if it's a common convention or if there are issues using the dowels in wood as opposed to screws only. Using a drill press for boring and dowel hole drilling.

I really dont think there is a mechanical issue either way. Dowels work, screws work, Insertas work. I have never had or heard of a failure unless you strip out the holes. If your are just using a drill press then i would say ditch the dowels but make sure you pilot drill for the wood screws.
I have a Blum machine and ship out my doors all 3 diffirent ways depending on the customer.

There's no problem using the dowels in wood personally think they are stronger
