HEPL. HELP, shopping for edgebander, Any input on a used Brandt KDF530?4/13/16
We are shopping for a used edgebander. We saw a used Brandt model 2007 machine. It is said to be in very good and well mantained condition, used in a three men shop and was used 6 hours a day for only 6 years.
We are planning to band .45, 1 and 2mm pvc on 5/8" melamine. Our material thickness is very consistent.
We are just wondering if anyone out there has any input if a used Brandt 530 would be a fit for a small shop that is looking for a quality machine that will be used around 30 hours a week for a 5 to 6 year period. Any opinions would be appreciate it.
also any thoughts on on an new SCM k600 instead?
I have two brandts newest one is a 2000 kd 53 the other a 54, both runnining well.
By those calculations it's done about 9000 hours and your asking about another 9000 from it. Shouldn't be an issue however it's not "near new" either.
They are a fantastic near bulletproof machine but if there is one machine in the shop you want to be reliable it's the bander so you want to make sure it's truly reliable. Why are they selling? is it clean inside? Written service history? Good price? Service tech near you?
I have seen many of these brands 10, 15 years old still going.
If that machine ran for 6hrs a day in a 3 man shop then they were most likely a cut to size operation and that would be a concern. If they mean that the glue pot was hot for 6 hours a day then it is probably a low use machine and worth picking up. The machine should have a parts counter on it and that would give you a good idea of how it has been used. If you are over 400,000 parts then you may want to look a little closer at it. If the glue pot has never been replaced I would consider doing it before putting into service. That would give you a nice fresh start. Great machine by the way!
