Two sided melimine saw blade6/21/16
What blades are folks using on a vertical panel saw without a scoring unit. I prefer to just swap the blades frequently we have had much better luck. As blades have improved so much I think the scoring units may very soon be a thing of the past.
I need a 250MM blade with a 30mm bore for cutting two sided melamine chip free. Iím sure you guys are using blades like that. Do you mind sharing that information with me?

Ask the saw distributor. I tried a number of blades on my Striebig. My local tooling sharpener recommended various ones and I was unhappy with the recommendations. Finally decided to ask the saw importer and their suggestion worked the best. I came to the conclusion a vertical, with the back scoring, required a very different solution than what the tooling guy was familiar with.

Got something funny in your coffee? A properly set up scoring blade will out cut any single blade, hands down! If your saw has scoring why not use it? You are chasing a duck that ain't gonna fly...
I believe that duck will fly for sure in a few more years. I am surrounded by other professional shops I talk with and they are all trying to get away from the scoring unit model. The blade manufactures tell me point blank the blades will do it within the next few years. I am a strong believer in keeping things simple.
I have done this stuff a long time and the scoring units are a pain in my ass, a lot of adjustments for something very simple. They will be gone in the next five years for sure as technology continues to advance in our industry
Ok John, we all need dreams of future improvements. I have scoring on my beam saw and Altendorf, both without complaints. There in no scoring on my Striebig so, I up-cut a few millimeters deep then cut down full depth. This actually works quite well.
Not having to set up a scoring blade would be nice. With the ability level of sharpening shops I don't see it happening more than once, when the blade is new. I used hollow ground blades when I only had a vertical, what a pain to get them sharpened properly. Scoring solved those issues.
You said you had a Streibig; I have a Putsch Meniconi vertical. How do you control the depth of cut? We do not have that ability that I am aware of. I had never thought of doing that. How do you do it?
How old is your Streibig. What model? I looked at a few recently and was unimpressed, we had one years ago and it was great. It appears they are like so many others and sat on their quality and technology and did not improve it much did they. I really liked ours.
Mine is a "standard" and about twenty plus years old (green color). (my slats move in the rip position so the blade doesn't cut them) I control depth by rotating the handle part way as I pull up on the saw motor assembly making a vertical cut then rotating the handle completely and pulling down to make a full depth cut. (not sure how your saw works)
I had a newer Striebig Compact that had a riving knife that you adjusted to the depth of score you wanted. I liked it a lot after having a scoring table saw (Delta RT-31) and an Omga scoring radial arm saw(900SS). I learned to hate setting the scoring blades on those two saws. Yes, I had to change blades more often than with a scoring setup but it was worth it.
