looking for spring loaded pin
8/5/18
I need some kind of spring loaded pin for a pull out step that i am making to fit in a bottom drawer opening of a vanity. It is for kids to step on to reach the sink. I need to find some kind of a pin that will recess into the pullout that i made by laminating three pieces of ply wood together.
Something that will pop up after they clear the face frame and can be pushed down to let the drawer slide back in.
I was thinking something along the lines of the spring loaded pins that are used in bi-fold doors but larger diameter.
Does anyone have a source for such a pin
thanks.....nicko

Why not just mortise a passage door latch into the setup somewhere. It could just ride on an aluminum strike bar of sorts when the stool is retracted and would just pop up and lock?

Thanks. Thats a great idea. I will consider it.
You defiantly understand what i want to do. Whatever i use would have to ride on some kind of rail until it clears the face frame.

Agreed, that was why I mentioned an aluminum strike/bar or something. Was thinking even just a piece of 3/4" or 1" wide aluminum flat bar mortised or surface mounted to the case for the latch to ride against with perhaps a small portion of a door lock strike cut down and mortised into the face as well so the latch registers against a metal strike when it projects out as well.
Good thinking for a child application. Those are risky situations regardless.

Places that sell to the metal working trade have ball detents of all sorts. Try MSC or McMaster-Car.
