Blum tandom vs grass dynapro

Hi all, I have worked with Blum hardware for 20 plus years. The Grass salesman came by and showed me the benefits of the Dynapro over the Blum tandom. The tip on feature looks far superior, the rack and pinion looks better than the Blum, the price is cheaper(not a selling point to me), and the Clips look way better too. My question is for people with experience with both slides, which would you prefer and why? I think I’m going to switch but thought I’d ask first. Thanks

I prefer the Blum because it is easier to get.

Have used Blum for 15 years no issues. None.

Have tried Grass and others a couple of times but we just keep coming back to Blum.

I ran dynapros exclusively until we lost distribution which was a sad day. I've never been a fan of Blum even though they have such a presence. But the dynapros for all the reasons you mentioned we're just night and day. They are way more robust way heavier/stronger that I can only imagine extremely derated on their weight rating.

The clipse alone are night and day compared to any other brand we used to. I miss the dynapros to this day but Freight bringing them in it's just too much.

We moved to Salice now across the board. I always liked their hinges even though I did like the grass as well. Dennis support here from salice and distribution is one of the main reasons though if I regained access to the dynapros itd be tough not to go back on the slides.

Oddly the other day I was visiting a friend who is doing some work on his own kitchen and had gone to Home Depot and bought some 1/2 inch overlay clip on face frame hinges from them that he paid an obscene amount for and I told him they were more than likely junk Home Depot branded. When he pulled the box out and I looked they were all grass multi-speed soft-close face frame hinges branded in a Home Depot box which I thought was strange.

Hey Mark B,

Thanks for those kind words. I enjoy reading the posts here on Wood-web and have learned much over the years about cabinet making in general. I am happy to contribute when the topic is hinges (Which I know a little about after 24 years with Salice).

I'm not too surprised about the Grass hinges in Home Depot. You will find Salice in Menards if you are ever in a bind and need a few hinges in a hurry.

Thanks again,

Dennis

Ive used grass dynapro for the last 6 years. I love the lateral adjustment. It seems to be easier to move than the blum movento, which i think are blums closest match to the dynapro. The dynapros have a higher weight rating too, at 40 kg vs tandem 30kg. Also they're synchronized so you don't hear the slides knocking when you pull it in and out. Whew! I just about sound like i work for grass but i don't

we used blum tandem slides for over 10 years but had several issues with the local supplier continually messing up orders. i then tried the switch to dynapros (from hafele) but there were several issues:
-there's delicate part of the spring mechanism that would often get broken in shipping (approx. 1 of 10 pairs would get damaged)
- i find it annoying that you need to order + install an additional little green piece on the back of the drawer for '3-D' adjustment (blum's are integral to the slide)

so we are back to blum for now. i did like some things about the dynapros that others have mentioned. thinking about this, i may give them a try again!

The Dynapros seem to have better adjustability to them, which the installers like.

I prefer the Dynapros. If we had to use Blum, we'd still be doing great though. It's going from good to great.

We buy Dynapro from Hafele. The only problem with buying from Hafele is that their shipping documentation can be a real headache to deal with for various reasons. My Receiving guy is always buried under a mountain of papers when he's checking in a big Hafele order.

We just tried to make the switch to the Dynapros from our tried and true Blum Tandem of the last 10+ years. There are a few minor issues but the biggest for us (as stated above) is that to get the back up/down adjustment you have to use the 3D version. This is more expensive because you not only buy the back "clip" but then you have the time to install them as well.
We're back to Blum Tandems.
The exception being for wide drawers. The Dynapros are WAY easier than the Moventos. So we go with 3D's in those instances.

Here in Australia
You can get the Dynapros for Wurth which is really easy and they are great to deal with and nearly half the price of the Blum slides.
and the installation tools are cheaper and good quality as well.

WOODWEB's forums are a highly regarded resource for professional woodworkers. Messages and responses that are crafted in a professional and civil manner strengthen this resource. Messages that do not reflect a professional tone reduce the value of our forums.

Messages are inappropriate when their content: is deemed libelous in nature or is based on rumor, fails to meet basic standards of decorum, contains blatant advertising or inappropriate emphasis on self promotion (return to top).

Libel:   Posts which defame an individual or organization, or employ a tone which can be viewed as malicious in nature. Words, pictures, or cartoons which expose a person or organization to public hatred, shame, disgrace, or ridicule, or induce an ill opinion of a person or organization, are libelous.

Improper Decorum:   Posts which are profane, inciting, disrespectful or uncivil in tone, or maliciously worded. This also includes the venting of unsubstantiated opinions. Such messages do little to illuminate a given topic, and often have the opposite effect. Constructive criticism is acceptable (return to top).

Advertising:   The purpose of WOODWEB Forums is to provide answers, not an advertising venue. Companies participating in a Forum discussion should provide specific answers to posted questions. WOODWEB suggests that businesses include an appropriately crafted signature in order to identify their company. A well meaning post that seems to be on-topic but contains a product reference may do your business more harm than good in the Forum environment. Forum users may perceive your references to specific products as unsolicited advertising (spam) and consciously avoid your web site or services. A well-crafted signature is an appropriate way to advertise your services that will not offend potential customers. Signatures should be limited to 4-6 lines, and may contain information that identifies the type of business you're in, your URL and email address (return to top).

Repeated Forum Abuse: Forum participants who repeatedly fail to follow WOODWEB's Forum Guidelines may encounter difficulty when attempting to post messages.

There are often situations when the original message asks for opinions: "What is the best widget for my type of shop?". To a certain extent, the person posting the message is responsible for including specific questions within the message. An open ended question (like the one above) invites responses that may read as sales pitches. WOODWEB suggests that companies responding to such a question provide detailed and substantive replies rather than responses that read as a one-sided product promotion. It has been WOODWEB's experience that substantive responses are held in higher regard by our readers (return to top).
