No-mortise concealed door hinges for narrow rails/stiles
4/6/22
I have a tricky situation that I've spent all morning researching without a good solution. Would love some insight.
Building a display cabinet for a client. Two large upper doors with glass and two lower doors with solid wood panels. She wants narrow rails and stiles of 1 3/4". Face frame construction with inset doors.
So mortis euro hinges are out, as they'll hit where the glass will be, but most surface-mount hinges I've found require more than the 1 3/4" spacing to mount onto the stile.
I've looked at Sugatsune and Tectus, which are pricier than this job warrants, but even those seem to require door material thicker than the 13/16 doors these are.
I'm at a loss. Attached is a picture of the inspiration picture for the doors. Does anyone have a good solution here for concealed hinges that could work given these constraints?
Thank you for the help.

What about a Salice Air hinge?

Appreciate the introduction to those hinges, I've never encountered them before.
Looks like they're for overlay doors only, though. Wouldn't work for these inset doors.

Blum has a 26mm cup hinge. Not sure if it's small enough to work with your stiles.

Thank you! That just might work. The 26mm are for frameless but I was going to put a block in behind the FF for undermount slides anyway.

The 26mm are probably the closest thing to a solution that won't cost me $300, but those are only 90 degree. Really would like a bit further of an opening with roll-out shelves.

Curious that a customer is demanding 1 3/4" rails and stiles. How many years has she been designing furniture? I suggest you ask her what hinges she wants. I'd also add a clause to your contract about not being responsible for door sagging with the weight of all that glass on that narrow of door parts.

Now you have me worried the glass doors are going to fail. My first glass doors tbh.

The inspiration cabinet is metal.
That's how they did it .
That is not a good cabinet to build in wood IMHO

Also that hinge is not concealed, look close it's a normal barrel type hinge .

Has anyone mentioned Soss?
It has been a few years but, I have used them on 3/4" thick cabinet doors. Soss sells a hinge template that goes with different hinge sizes, which is a must. You also need a plunge router.
The best part is, the hinge offers zero adjustability. ha ha
In the end they worked well and gave the look desired.

Also, how much more would an 1/8" glass panel weigh then say a 3/8" or 1/2" wood panel (or mdf)?

The biggest issue is all that area at the top of the door that can't have a hinge.

And the area of that narrow stile that gets removed for the glass and retainer. Going to make a really narrow M&T.

The cabinet shown uses butt hinges, and thats what would be best for the application. You'll need well machined hinges and a full set can approach $300 easily. And since the client wants a narrow view stile and rail, I'd suggest making the doors 1-1/4" thick at least
