Line boring/shelf pins
2/5/23
I own a small 3 person shop that is undergoing an expansion. We have used various methods for boring 5mm shelf pin holes-none of which are going to work going forward. I honestly thought there was a good mix of tools similar to the Delta 13 spindle machines I have seen in the past. Boy was I wrong. What are you using to bore your panels (cnc not an option yet) and what brands/models are there available for a small but growing shop? Thanks

Short of CNC, Gannomat ProLine is at the top of the heap
I had an older Gannomat 310 double row that drilled from the bottom with dead nuts accuracy once set up correctly
Whatever you choose, forget the locating pins to extend the boring line and use extended fences and stops

Second vote for the Gannomat. I freaking loved mine

You should watch the auctions. I saw on Machinery Max an Ayen "LBM 32/23" go for $850.00. As far as manual line drilling goes this is the top of the line. I sold mine when I got CNC. Wanted to keep it but there was no space.

I have a Derek double row borer that bores from the bottom. I do not use the pop up pin either but stops which will allow me to bore a 96” side closet panel really fast.
There are many brands like Detel and conquest that are built like tanks and available used for reasonable prices.
I bought a used detel for 3500.00 16 years ago and except for new foot pedal at 65.00 on Amazon and some flexible air lines that needed replacing it’s still running strong.
