Lacquer doors peeling
10/19/23
Hi all,
I recently sprayed Rudd opaque pre-catalyzed lacquer on a few sets of cabinets. I have gotten a couple call backs regarding flaking of the lacquer on the sink doors. This is due to water sitting on the door profile. Anyone know of a clear coat that I can spray over the top of the lacquer around wet areas?
I have now moved to conversion varnish however that doesn’t help the existing customers. Any ideas?

Your best bet is to re sand and spray those failed components. Use a high quality Vinyl sealer and seal them.Lacquer does not meant for kitchen IMHO.
Respray the color coat and clear on top.
The key is the primer coat. If that coat fails the following coats will fail easily.
2k Poly or Conversion Var. is the animal to protect your kitchen or high traffic areas.Lacquer is good for all the rest.
Best of luck !

Spraying on top of a flaking base will just delay the issue, not fix it.

I'd guess your issue is water. Sand the door finish without changing the patina. If it is actually flaking off try an air nozzle to get off anything that is loose. Re-finish the door(s).
