I recently ran into a problem with my usual EVA glue—it just wouldn't stick to this one particular PVC edgebanding tape. So, I ordered a tape from a different manufacturer that matches the color, and I'm hoping it will do the trick when it arrives next week, but remains to be seen.
Right now, I'm not sure if the original tape was defective because it wasn't primed properly, or if it just didn't get along with my glue. I did some research, and it seems like stuff like this happens quite often, where the glue and tape don't play nice, even if neither of them is faulty.
In this particular case, the manufacturer of the PVC tape and board itself uses PUR glue for edge banding in their own production line, so maybe the tape in question was not primed at all, since PUR does not necessarily require primed tape (according to my google research).
I've been thinking, maybe switching to polyolefin glue could be a better option than sticking with EVA. My main goal is to avoid constantly switching between different glues and find one that works for most things. The problem is, there's not a lot of info out there about polyolefin glue.
So the questions:
1. Jowat 221 is one of the options suggested, but I'm curious if anyone here has any hands-on experience with it, or for that matter, any polyolefin glue?
2. What would be the pros and cons of polyolefin with regards to EVA?
3. Is there a way I could successfully apply primer to the unprimed PVC tape in some DIY fashion?
Thank you!
