Looking for help finding software similar to AlphaCAM. Don't need all the bells and whistles just need something that we can machine to our construction methods instead of working to what software makes us do.

Can you be a bit more specific? What bells and whistles don't you require? What is Alphacam forcing you to do that you don't want to?

The answers to those questions will help us to know what software will be better suited to you

What we are looking for is software that gives us the flexibility to machine and nest our parts to our construction methods. We are currently training with CabinetVision and we are forced to use their stock builds. We are completely custom and need to be able to modify parts for each specific project.

i dont understand stock cabinets in cabinetvision.
it does have stock cabinets but i have never used them. but it is really the best for custom work.

Cabinet Vision is a total pain in the butt to set up, but nice it’s set up works great. We have set up all of our own construction methods for what we do. It’s quite capable, but we use a third party that is really good at it to help us set up and maintain it.

I agree with the use of Mozaik, and their subscription fee is pretty decent. SmartDraw, Pro1000, and Fusion360 are also worth considering.

The best software is the one you are most familiar with. Both CV and Mozaik are very capable and customizable. You should have no problem achieving your construction method even if you are custom or highly custom.

You can look me up on YouTube to see a few comparison videos I've done on software but the best advice I can give you is don't give up on CV. In my opinion, it is the most capable cabinet software available. You just have learn how to utilize its features.

Alphacam/V-Carve/Enroute/etc are all great for one-off parts but not nearly as good for cabinet box building.

If you need custom and complete flexibility check out top solid wood. It’s the most powerful and versatile software on the market. It’s not widely used in the USA but it is world wide. I can do custom things in minutes that other software can’t do at all or is very very difficult.

Jason, what is the pricing like with top solid wood?

With everything you need with design and nesting and a post processor for your CNC machine, you are about $17,000 plus you will want to get some training. I was on the phone with one of the managers the other day, I can have him reach out to you if you would like.

We are about as custom as it gets and CV does pretty much everything we need. I use AC about 5 times a year to get some weird shaped, frequently "carved" piece done. And generally only because it's easier to do on AC.
If you are mostly cabinet (ply), and not furniture (solid wood) then CV is far more efficient than Top Solid or AC in my opinion.
I've never used Mozaik, but I hear good things. I don't think it's as powerful as CV, but probably most shops don't need it to be.
But no, you won't learn either in a week. I'm on year 10 with CV and still figuring out new tricks.
