New CNC Talent 5

We would really like to hear from the guys using the New CNC brand of machines. specifically the talent 5. We are looking at purchasing one and would love to hear the good and bad about them. If anyone has one and doesn't mind sharing that would be great,we didn't buy yet so just tell it straight! :) Thanks

Is this the only machine you are looking at Josh? I would like to recommend going to AWFS in Las Vegas July 25-28th. You will have the opportunity to see a large number of CNCs there to compare to each other. If you aren't going feel free to contact me regarding your needs.

We aren't set on a certain Kind, just wondering if anyone is running the New cnc and what they think of it. Our latest idea is go used since we are a small Kitchen a month shop and can hardly justify new at this point.

Used requires a great tech to go over the machine. First the controller could be obsolete and limited on the software it will run. There there is the maintenance schedule on the spindle bearings and linear bearings on the rails. I strongly suggest you not be a used import machine that has no support. It's very easy to buy one of those that quickly becomes an anchor with no parts support. I would suggest outsourcing parts of the kitchen if you need efficiency. When you out source, the cabinets are purchased on a fixed price. No tooling, no training, no vacuum pump, no upgrade on the dust collector, and a known profit margin. You can also go to at least 2 kitchens a month then. Double your profit for a while then your budget will be in a better place.

I am a sales person for a machine manufacturer. Many people do not realize the cost of leasing a brand new machine is close to the cost of an employee. For example: a 5 year lease with a 1 dollar buyout at the end for $150K will cost you around $2900 to $3900 per month depending on your credit worthiness which relates to $16.75 to $22.5 per hour based on a 40 hour work week. The big difference is that the machine is not going to be late to work, have to leave early, and if there is an issue, it should be under warranty!

….it’s girlfriend doesn’t get pregnant, doesn’t complain that your not paying enough even though your paying them more than they asked for, doesn’t have car trouble, doesn’t ask for a raise because it bought a new car they can’t afford, doesn’t skip work to help wife with kids, doesn’t complain it’s to tired from helping wife with kids, doesn’t skip work to work on side job…..
Remember your not buying a CNC to do the same thing your doing now on a different machine. You’re buying a CNC to do the things you currently do faster and more efficiently AND do things you can’t currently do. Once you get software taken care of and set up properly the right CNC will increase your productivity and pay for itself, it’s an investment that pays dividends on a regular basis.
I’ll be at Vegas show most of the week and will be glad to meet and talk with anyone about benefits of CNC. I’ll be around the Anderson Booth as well as at the Vantedge booth and my experience with these machines.

Ha ha Derrek
That made me laugh. Goes to show the excuses are the same even 3000 miles away in Ireland.

Yes your right Derek:) having more options and getting the work done faster would be the main thing since we are only a 2 man shop. Then if we ever grow, the added benefit of all the common problems with workers nowadays!

As well as being less than 1/4 the cost, my 20 year old Komo is more reliable and less expensive to run then my buddy's Felder. Parts easier to find and control issues (Fanuc) easier to sort out. And at 15,000 pounds vs 6,000 pounds, can run faster and more accurately.
Just sayin...

We pretty much got away from A new,. New CNC brand. too expensive for us. We are now looking at getting a used selex pal with Fanuc controls. If we can sell the cnc we have.

You want a solid machine. I’m an Anderson fan. Fanuc controller and they just run without any issues. I believe if your doing cabinets and or closets the 2 things that are a huge timesaver and worth the money is a drill block and the ability to push material off/unload machine. This will double your output with machine. I regularly run 7-10 sheets per hour with my Anderson and pull right off conveyor and feed into edgebander. Ran 60 sheets the other day. Message me if you want and I’ll set you up with a meeting with Anderson national sales manager

Yes Derek, I really like the Anderson machines. The other thing is i really like your setup! I believe i watched all your videos! you got me sold on a vantedge bander! We are a 2 man shop doing residential kitchens so not near the volume your putting through.
7/20/23 #14: New CNC Talent 5 ...
What is your goal on volume? Do you aspire to build two kitchens a week - or more?
A light industrial machine will cut a kitchen per day. Something like a Camaster, Shop Sabre or what I have an FMT are well built, easy to learn and support. My machine is 11 years and hasn't had a single problem. Advantages to a smaller machine are the electrical and dust collection loads are far smaller. Re sale percentage will be better I suspect. You can get a 5 x 10 with a pump and drill block up and running for $70 or less (maybe much less).
I am a small shop so while I would love to have a big iron machine, the speed would be lost on me because the rest of the construction, installation would be a greater bottleneck.

Yes Tom, we are hoping to get to the point of putting more through. Right now we are running a shopsabre. It works great just no popup pins no drill block 5 by 8 table and a smaller atc spindle, hoping to upgrade sometime to a more loaded shopsabre or possibly a used anderson. Id say our biggest bottleneck right now is finishing, that is probably where i should be focused instead of on the cnc. Wondering also if anyone would have added an unload bar or sweep bar to an anderson machine?

Josh jump on a used Anderson or Komo. Both machines are great. I used to work for MultiCam, Biesse and Komo OEM's and now I am independent. I work on Anderson's directly (my partner is the authorized representative for Texas) plus anything else my partner is authorized to sell along with the existing equipment our customers have.
Saying that, I have installed and serviced a few Anderson machines. The machines are stout, reliable, etc. Most of the issues that come up with the Andersons and honestly just about any machine is user error causing breakage.
You cannot go wrong getting a used Komo or an Anderson, just have a qualified technician check the machine out (while it is still under power), to find out what all needs to be addressed.

Thanks Justin, I believe it will be a used Anderson. We still are trying to sell our current machine, Its a great machine just not as many options as i would like. And unfortunately we hardly have room for 2 machines!

If you’re considering a New CNC Talent 5, people who actually run them generally say they’re decent machines for the price with solid rigidity and good accuracy right out of the box, but like with any mid-range CNC unit you need to pay attention to setup and maintenance; the ballscrews and linear bearings are okay for most hobby and light industrial work, but they aren’t in the league of high-end precision gearboxes and preloaded linear guides, so you’ll hear about occasional backlash that needs tuning, the stock bearings sometimes being a limiting factor at higher feeds, and the control panel/interface having a learning curve, while the positives are that with proper calibration and maybe a few upgrades the Talent 5 can hold respectable tolerances and put in reliable hours — just go in knowing what the machine’s baseline capabilities are versus what upgrades you might want.
