Time to upgrade dust collection

Hey all, I'm looking for recommendations for a new dust collection system.

I have a small 3 man shop and I've out grown my 5HP Oneida super gorilla dust collector.

I'm considering the 7.5 and 10HP Oneida machines but am curious about any other options out there. Mostly I want to be able to be able collect the sawdust in a hopper/dumpster and not be continually emptying 55 gallon drums.

We need to be able to run 3 machines at a time, which is the driving factor in looking for a new set up.

Check out the Nederman S-750 or S-1000. We have the S-1000 which has 5000 cfm with a dump bin. probably 12-13k with the dump bin and delivery.

coima SHK-SERIES is another one as well as ENTECCO, N Series

I would also shop Befab. Very Similar to Nederman. I have owned both.

If you are happy with Oneida, stick with them. I have used them in my last 3 systems, and they and their products are great to work with.

You need a RAL - Rotary Air Lock - just above your dumpster and you can collect it that way.

In regard to the dumpster. We used to collect dust that way. Use a rotary air lock and let it drop into a dumpster. Then our collection company went to LP to power their trucks and they said they would no longer collect it. Something about an explosion risk when they dump it. There is quite a poof of dust when they dump it!

We now have a recirculating system that blows it into a sealed dumpster. It is a lot easier, has to be dumped less often but it is expensive to execute. I think my payback was 15 years.

I am not a fan of Oneida, we had a 15hp cyclone for a while. The filters are expensive and have to be replaced. The filters are a PIA to clean and they are LOUD. That was my biggest problem. I think the best solution is a cyclone with a bag house.

Hi Dale,

I saw your post, we used an Al-KO brand indoor unit, a model 300 with rotary airlock. These machines are pricey but I highly recommend them for a 3-5 man shop, they are high quality units made to last with excellent electronic controls and the pulse jet cleaning is really convenient and works well. We just expanded and added a much large unit as we have out grown the Al-KO unit, we priced a new central unit from AL-KO since we liked the quality, but it was out of our price range. We have this old unit for sale listed on the woodweb machinery exchange. Have a look on there, maybe it fits you. You would need a small transfer fan depending on how far you need to move the chips to your dumpster, we used a 3 Hp blower that was controlled by the DC unit. There are some nice videos online showing the Al-KO units. They are sold and serviced by Martin Machinery in Charlotte.

Before retirement my shop had 2 people full time and an occasional third. So probably similar in scope to yours.

I ran a 5hp Oneida cyclone system for the machines that create chips and shavings but kept separate small 2 hp individual collectors on each sander. This was a great compromise because it kept the sanding dust out of the Oneida cartridge filter which, as was said, is a pain to clean. Plus the sanding dust buildup was relatively slow so bags didn't have to be emptied very often.

Eventually I replaced the Oneida cartridge filter with a bank of 6" dia. x 7' tall tube filters by American Filter Fabric. I built top and bottom box housing for either end of the vertical tubes. That system was a perfect marriage of the excellent Oneida cyclone and self cleaning tubes. Maintenance on the system went from an hour or two a month down to nearly nothing.
