My shop is looking to upgrade to an outdoor dust collector. We have a 25,000sqft shop with 13 guys and we currently have 2 different inside units. They do a fine job, but i'd like to upgrade to 1 large unit and put it on the outside. it would free up floor space and eliminate some noise. I am from south dakota and don't really have anyone up here to design the system for us and tell us what we need. We have a Biesse CNC and holzher bander connected to it that both run 9 hours a day. We also have a dowler, panel saw, planer, etc all hooked up to this system.
The unit needs to be as quiet as possible since we are across the street from a church and restaurant.

Dust collector manufacturers and duct work suppliers can design it for you. I bought a used 75hp outdoor collector so had Spiral Pipe from Minnesota design and supply the ductwork. It is nice to have the dc outside. The return air gets cooled down on cold winter days and takes more heat but is worth it.

If noise and energy savings are two of your major concerns this could be achieved with the Modesta dust collectors we import. Multiple fans are mounted in the top section, eliminating the noise associated with outdoor fan. These fans can be turned off or slow down and speed up when demand calls for it. This is a negative pressure system that measures the flow needed throughout your shop.

Consider the make-up air. An outdoor unit pulls indoor air outside, so whatever air it exhausts will be replaced with outdoor air...in South Dakota that could be tens of thousands of CFM of cold air to heat. Indoor units are a closed loop of indoor air.
