Saw in a post below that Sherwin williams may be discontinuing the agualente line? any truth to this, or Just vicious rumor?
Also one of my locals suppliers(dunn edwards) told me today that they had a recall on valspar zenith in october with no definite information as to whether they were going to discontinue or replace the line
In addition general finishes has discontinued their black undercoat, does anyone have a good recomendation for a dark based WB primer?... other than MLC

Agualente is a ML Campbell product.
It does look like GF has discontinued their black primer. Target Coatings sells a grey WB primer; it's called Emtech HSF5000 WB.

A rep told me that ML Campbell bought SW and is phasing out the Sherwood Lacquer line and a few other things. Can anybody confirm?

Sherwin owns MLC, and has for a number of years. There's been rumors of Sherwin taking MLC formulas and putting a Sherwin label on them for their stores but no one I've talked to can confirm this.
I do know that you see Becker products in some Sherwin stores around the country though.

As a waterbased-only shop for 14 years, I'm now used to to the stops and starts of the different product lines. I lived through the original MLC Polystar days when you couldn't predict how the finish would turn out on any given day.
Agualente has been a solid product, but the last time I used it for a pigmented job, the 2nd coat crawled, wrinkled and pinholed horribly. It was such a bad experience that I've switched over to Target's pigmented line. It's not as user friendly in some ways, but the end result is very good. I have a hard time getting the Target primer to spray well out of any gun. It "spits" out of the gun and produces a textured surface. Not a huge problem since it gets sanded, but it's not very easy to sand like the MLC primer. Also, the pigmented product is only available in a single sheen (satin, but definitely on the flatter side of satin), so it needs to be clearcoated in most cases.
MLC never seemed to be enthusiastic about their WB products and their tech support has been virtually nonexistent.
Cheers,
Pat

Thats basically been my experience Pat. The west coast MLC rep who I talked to was not very helpful, and basically eluded to the fact that all of his customers were still using solvent based when and where ever they could. My local General finishes supplier is going to tint the clear sanding sealer for me, to make a sort of dark primer. We will see how that goes, im a little worried about the solids being low in comparison to a true primer. I have never used the target primer. I do like their products, they just dont have a strong enough presence here in southern california foe me to be able to always get the products I need when I need them. Sherwin Williams does own MLC, and has another line called Chem Aqua right? Maybe they will be fusing the two brands in the future since the MLC stuff seems to be more troublesome?

Why are you guys fighting waterbased so much? I have used ICA waterbase for years and the primers spray out and sand like the old NC primers from years ago and the clears are some of the best products out there. Yes it may be hard to get in some areas, but at least call them and see whats available for you.

Bob I have looked into this and in my area it just too difficult to get a hold of their entire line. believe me I would love to get a hold of the stuff.
I have seen that Wurth louis and company is now carrying the Milesi waterborne clear coat, not the complete line, and you have to order it out of their Utah branch.

An update on the tinted sanding sealer:
I sprayed a coat of the Black tinted Enduro sanding sealer last night, and sanded it this morning, and so far I like what I see. The build is a little lower than I would like but not drastically, and it is sanding really well.

ICA Coatings are great. You must be willing to open your pocketbook to purchase their product line. Their Clear top coat H20 coating is about $400.00 per 25kg bucket.
If you don't have a local supplier, and need their product in the winter months, you are in trouble....save for California or Florida.
