2 quart pressure pot

I have never used one of these, so I have a couple questions, they range from $70 to $500 plus. Like a Harbour freight one compared to a name brand. Is there really a big difference in quality? I am not looking for a gun as I have lots of those.
I am planning on spraying some viscous coatings, just small batches on an extra door or filler or a screwup.
I am looking at the Kremlin gravity gun with a pressurized cup, but they want $920 for that? Wowzer! Maybe it is worth it?
Not sure if anyone has some other ideas, I have 4 air assisted pump, Kremlin and CA Technologies, I have big pressure pots, I have an airless pump. I have sata and lemmer and 3M gravity guns.
I just need a system to get some really good finishes without reducing this heavy material and throwing a bunch away when I prime a pump.
Thanks for any ideas?

how much are you mixing up at time? and do you need stainless steel? so for options, how about putting a one gallon can in a two gallon pressure tank that most people have laying around? buy a new set of hoses shorter the better that will still work for you, there you go alternatives expensive, one qt pressure cups, heavy and expensive, cheap two 2 remote cups, usually fluid air pressure regulators are of poor quality.......
me, shorter hoses, one gallon can in a 2 gallon pot, good to go, less expense, works well, easier on the wrist........, sometimes have to shorten the pick up tube on the pot but they are cheap and easy as crap to replace
good luck

Herb,
Thanks for the info, I didn’t even think of putting a smaller pot in the bigger pressure pot.
I usually spray a set of cabinet doors with my Kremlin air assist, I will mix about a 1/3 of a gallon and that primes the pump and sprays one side of the doors as I spray everything flat unless on site.
I am looking for a set up to spray just a few ounces for say a door or two.

how thick is the material, most of the time a decent gravity gun with a 1.8 tip or 2.0 tip. not even hvlp gun just a air spray hvlp, with that little material, you are looking for convenience, not paint savings......i wouldn't even full around with a tank and hoses with that small amount, blow it on with an air spray gravity gun, so what if loose 35percent of your material cost, you will get killed with time cleaning and solvent cost messing with a p pot with that small amount of material??????? just my two cents, in bidens world i don't want to think of its true value anymore................maybe just the copper

Herb,
Everything you said is bang on. The product I have been spraying lately is Envirolak, I just hate mixing a 1/4-1/3 of a gallon to prime a pump to spray say 1 door that was dropped and needed to be rebuilt as an example. I tried a sata gravity gun with a 1.8 tip, I had to thin the material and it changed the sheen. It doesn’t happen very often, but I hate wasting material when it is $100 a gallon..

What's the viscosity of Envirolak?
If it's like most waterborne it should be fine with a gravity feed gun
For small jobs like you described I wouldn't bother with a pressure pot
You still need material to bleed the line
And clean up can be a b&$# at time
I use CA Technologies J100 gravity spray gun with PPS cup
You could also look into a turbine sprayer
The cup gets pressurized to help pushing material out
But they can get expensive
Good luck

you can get the PPS with a pressurized cup. i use it to spray small amounts of polyester. works fine. easy to clean

I would be amazed if you can't get a wb topcoat out of a Sata gravity gun with a 1.8n/n. I'm assuming it's the high transfer HVLP type that runs on 40psi.
Like others have suggested, we would use a gravity gun. Regardless if you have the 3m cleanup system or not. You waste hardly any material or solvent cleaning a gravity gun.
If you are seriously interested in getting a 2qt pot setup for any other project, I highly reccommend the Starr brand gear. It used to be available under the Astro Pneumatic brand as well. Great HVLP guns & there 2qt setups are perfect out of the box. I used to spray tons of heavy bodied wb MLC primer out of my 2qt. The gallon was a waste of time and material to clean.

Thanks for all the good information.
I ordered the cartridge and the pressure cup for the 3m gun. I will give it a try.
I could get a good finish with the sata gun, but I had to add at least 5% thinner to the material. The thinner changes the sheen, it doesn’t look good if you have the odd door that is different.

The 2.0 tip works well for heavier coatings with the 3M pps gun.

I have every imaginable paint application system in my shop ( from AAA, pressure pots & cups, diaphragm pumps, airless, turbine and gravity guns.) The 2 most used set-ups are the AAA pumps and gravity guns. Occasionally l'll use the airless fir very viscous material or pressure pot/gun set-up for spraying stain.
