Graco merkur pump problem12/3/20
Hi guys I recently purchased a graco merkur. And from start it been tough deal with ,1unit does not come with standard connection to connect air to valve on unit ,I called rep and was told go Home Depot and get parts myself ;graco does not supply ;so after several runs I got it connected 2. No TSL liquid was supplied so again I had order from rep and wait week to get it now I have bigger issue Once I open air valve to prime unit. It seems fine. Then when I open psi valve clockwise. The pump is constantly running and needle is jumping up and down on clock. On videos it shows the pump cutting out after 2 to 3 seconds of turning knob and gun ready spray. Iíve called graco and rep I bought unit from and basically have been told to read instructions and figure it out. They have no rep that can come to look at it or show how it should work properly. And after paying over 5 thou for it. I thought this would not be case. Iím hoping some one here on forum has one and can explain what is wrong. Thanks. Tadhg
Sounds like your dealer might suck :)
I have contacted graco about my merkur a few times and gotten immediate responses about my issues.
Also note that they have videos on setup/teardown/rebuild/etc that might be helpful for you since you can't get anyone to come out:
It's pretty common not to include unit air fittings (and not just with pumps) because lots of folks use different fittings.
I'm sure they would get more calls from including them than not :)
None of their pumps (I've ever bought) include the TSL. Again, probably just don't want to ship liquids with the pump.
Are you in the US? You mention it took a while to get it, but everywhere in the US i've been, TSL is available ~everywhere (home depot, paint stores, etc). Heck, i'm pretty sure i could find it at the right grocery store.
As for functioning, it should stop once it hits pressure.
If not, something is up in the pump.
You are priming with tip off right?
Hi guys thanks for responses yes I have cap off. And I called rep today so ton I turned it on and took video of it. Constantly. Running. ; he recommended turning on psi at lowest. Level and check connections. Which I have done already. He said they will pick up and send to be inspected and fixed but. I do not want same one back especially if it canít work properly without even spraying one gallon of. Paint so far. I tried my local home depot for tsl but they did not stock it. So I ordered on line. But I appreciate feedback. Guys I hope when I eventually get one working unit it will make up for all this trouble. T
you know i really feel bad that they rep could't really take a little time with you to explain to you to time properly prime a new pump. i am not ragging on you , quite the opposite, it almost sounds as though it was a graco commercial rep guy in stead of graco industrial guy who could have walked you though the process. rarely does a new pump have an fatal issue priming, more likely either a lose siphon hose assy, priming the pump to fast, etc. one trick to help with a stubborn pump is to put take off the siphon hose, put a qt can full of solvent directly under the ball check assy and run the pump slowly, pretty much it will be a home run on a stubborn pump.
really sorry you had issue and poorly performing customer rep
Hi herb I called rep again and he said they would take it back to look at it. But. I thought I would take off all fittings
I've called Graco a few times for our Merkur ES 30:1 pump, for my G40 aa gun and for my G15 aa gun. I've never been rushed. Regarding the manual, they just included a drawing and a note about catalyzed coatings based on my book review (read that as whining) of their manual.
The aa tips, can they stamp or engrave them any more faintly than they already do? Who can read the numbers, especially onsite? Here on out, look for easy to read tip numbers stamped on the tips.
The 1/8" ID blue fluid hose, do you have thus fella more than snug tight? It happens to me, I don't have it tight enough.
Throat lubricant - I use the C. A. Technologies #91-36 throat lubricant, but even what you can buy at Sherwin-Williams or Home Depot will adequately lubricate the piston.
I always email my questions and issues in addition to calling Graco.
We await sytem #2 to augment our collection. One for clear and one for pigment, though I interchange the one that we have. Good flushing helps in going from clear to color, from whites to darks.
