We have a Makor S-One we purchased new about 1.5 years ago.

Recently we've had persistent issues with clogged tips and have discovered that our fittings (and the ball valve at the spray head) have a lot of pigmented solid buildup in them.

We're a little surprised by this because we have been flushing the lines quite a lot between color changeovers, and every day we flush out all the pigment and leave the machine overnight with clear acetone in the lines.

We were told by our techs to use only acetone in the lines to protect the life of the fluid hoses. While perhaps the acetone is less likely to damage the fluid hoses, I'm not sure acetone is doing a sufficient job of removing pigment buildup.

We've noticed here that if we try to clean stuff with acetone by hand, it's less effective than using cheap recycled lacquer thinner.

Can anyone here comment on what you're flushing your flatlines with overnight, and what you're leaving overnight in the hoses?

We are spraying post cat conversion varnish, SW KemVar and for clear we're using Sherwood Water White conversion varnish. We've never run anything but this through the flatline.

your tech is doing no favors, first of all if you makor doesn't have all stainless steel fittings, i would not be happy. and if the hoses are that fragile that you can't use something similiar to mek etc, that would put me on the moon. the other option you have is a w/b cleaner called acrastrip. especially when it is warm it works wonders. circulate it thru the system and flush with acetone. you will be suprised with the results, be sure and change and/or check all of your fluid filters after the flush. good luck herb j

The fittings are stainless steel. But your about the hoses and solvent resistance is pretty much the same thing I thought.

I actually do have some of the MLCampbell waterbased gun soak, we may give that a shot if needed later on.

How long are you all getting out of hoses?

matt, sorry not sure i understand the last line of you comment. also with the wb cleaner my suggestion is to leave the system charged up over the weekend filled with the wb cleaner, the a water wash then flush with acetone.

My last statement would have been better worded to say "how long do your hoses last?".

We're going to have new hoses installed tomorrow due to our current volume dictating that we cannot afford further clogged tip issues, so I'll investigate just how bad the inside of the hoses are, and if they are deteriorating or just coated with paint buildup.

Acetone isn't the best flushing solvent for a good deep cleaning since it does also leave a film. It's probably alright for between different products but something like laquer thinner with a high amount of MEK in it of at least 50% or even straight MEK would be best. The acrastrip is also a good product since it's really a paint stripper so it will basically dissolve pretty much most catilyzed products. Acrastrip is best used when reduced with water. adding more acrastrip does not make it stronger FYI. But if you don't get it all flushed out can cause fisheyes.
