Chemlife 24 problems

I’ve used MLC products my entire career and recently my paint store changed hands and started selling Chemcraft too. I often use magnamax instead of CV because the 8 hour pot life. Anyway he said Chemcraft 24 CV is superior to Krystal for a lot of reasons.

Using a Kremlin AAA to spray. So I bought a 5 and as soon as I got done spraying Krystal I started in with the Chemlife. Immediate difference, First coat it started leaving bubbles all over the place. Looked horrible. This was over maple cabinet parts so after it dried I had to take an orbital with 220 over it to smooth it out. Second coat no bubbles but tiny tiny little dimples in the finish. It almost looked lime someone threw som salt on it. The finished product was better than I thought it would be but not great by any stretch. Could still see some of the bubbles from the first coat if you looked for them.

I have never had these issues with any MLC product but before I give up on it (I like the price and 24 hour pot life), was wondering if anyone had an idea what is happening. It’s a total disconnect for me that it’s laying down so bad.

Also he said I can use, and he suggests it, I use chemlife 24 over MLC Turino, he prefers turino over chemcraft paints. does that seem correct to you guys?

While it’s been a couple years since I sprayed this product I did use it exclusively for 2-3 years and its pigmented counterpart. I actually really liked the product (and I used MLC products before this for 5 years and found it on par). So since it’s been 4 years since I learned this product if I am remembering correctly you need to thin the first coat if you are self sealing with it to not have what happened to you on the first coat. 20% minimum thinning. Butyl Acetate is best. Once you solve the first coat the rest will lay down beautifully.

I’m surprised by that answer. It seems thinner than any finish I’ve ever used. I was actually wondering if it was too thin was the problem

Nope, it will solve your problem. Took me a few minutes on a Sunday morning before coffee but after a little thought you will be good to go once thinned like that. Good luck. You'll like the product. I've shot them all and it's right up there with my favorites as far as ease of spray to get good results once you make this adjustment with self seal.
