My wife wants a live edge dining table of spalted maple with epoxy applied in the knots and holes in the wood. I've never sprayed 2k poly, but I have about 20 years working with conversion varnish. I would be using a C A Tech AAA 14:1 pump with Cougar spray gun. What information do you have for me regarding the best products, where to purchase (will distributors ship product to me?). I live in West Virginia.
P.S. Is it worth my time to use a 2k poly one time rather than just do what I'm accustomed to with the conversion varnish??

I've been using 2K poly for past 12 years. Ilva products from camger coatings in Ma. also main distributor is IC&S in Pa.
I find it very easy to spray but you need to be careful. Pot life is about 2 hours. At this point it will harden and make clean up very difficult.
also you need to wear a supplied air respirator because of the Isocyanates in the catalyst.
The smell from the finish goes away very quickly compared to C.V. where the odor lingers for days.
For a full filled finish I spray polyester first then seal and topcoat with 2K poly.

Hi Stan,
Solvent Based Conversion Varnish ( and Lacquer) and contains Formaldehyde. It gives up fumes for up to 2 months ( or so i have been told) in your house. That is why a lot of European Countries have not used it for close to 2 decades.
Everything Chris told you about Isocyanates applies with Polyurethane. Air Supplied Mask is a must in Canada if you use Polyurethane.
Isocyanates are cured the next day and you can deliver and install in your customers house without of gassing.
We use Polyurethane by ICA for finishing Exterior Doors.

Thanks for the info, gentlemen. I have some technical data sheets from ICA. Here's the information I have...
CLEAR PUR HC TOP COAT (OP384) has a 1-4 hour interval between coats
# of coat up to 2
Dry to touch at 45 minutes

Same specs as above for 2K CLEAR SB TCOAT G20 (OP383)

For FP271 2K CLEAR SB BCOAT
Interval between coats 1-3 hours
Dry to touch 1 hour
Sandable 12 hours

If I remember what some of you stated, the drying times and sanding times would be considerably longer than I expected. What am I missing??
