Setting fraction angles on miter saw

Hello all- I am trying to cut crown moldings for cabinets using a 10" compound miter saw. My fence is to short for the upside down method so I want to cut them flat. I was wondering how you guys adjust the fraction angles (36.29 for example) on a miter saw. I could do a 36.5 for example but when adjusting to a 100th of a degree I have no clue. Should I just buy a better saw with bigger fence or one that has micro adjustment availible? Or there is a trick? Should I just get a very good digital angle finder and set each angle by putting that against blade and or fence,etc. each time? I appreciate any help.

I like your name. Dont know your particular saw but maybe you can make an auxiliary fence for it out of some 1X or a piece of 3/4 ply. Make it as high as you need it as long as the saw clears it.

Thanks . I have been thinking about that and would probably do it that way as it sounds to be the easiest way. I was kind of wondering though how one would do the flat cutting when those angles are so precise (To the 100th of a degree!!).

I assume you got that 36.29 fron a digital protractor . Just a thought I would mark the saw since there isn't a detent for that angle and or bevel and then come back to it. Am I on the right page.?

Splitting blond ones! With a couple of % change in moisture the wood will move more than 1/64"! You must have one hell of a compound miter saw to expect that level of repeatable accuracy. On an outside corner you can deal with a bit of angular error easily. On an inside corner you're coping it anyway. ??? Cut a bit long, back bevel a bit, trial fit, goober some glue on the ends and push it into place, wipe glue, use the side of a smooth screwdriver or something to burnish the last bit together, sand a bit if needed for any error & to ease the sharpness so the finish will be better, (on outside corner) and no one will ever know your were off by 1/64"!!!! You know that glue quickly absorbs into end grain and softens the last 1/32" or so of that extreme point so that it will stand a bit of "press fit." As a last resort one or two swipes with your block plane and wala. Don't waste your time on over thinking it, just get 'er done, collect and move on to the next job.

Thank you all. And thanks for the files pat. And you are right about me over thinking it. I'll try your methods and just do one and see how it goes. Will post updates. No wonder I have been without a kitchen for 2 months. I think too much :)

tony make a aux fence cut crown nested cut some scraps of crown with inside and outside miters 45 and 22.5 degree angles to test on your cabs to see if the angle is right .a little eyeballing with scraps you will be able to tell how to set the angle on saw any questions call me 218-820-0289

Forget about fooling around cutting on the flat (unless you have to because of the limitations of your saw). If you must try the Festool Kapex, life will not be the same.
