I have a situation on a custom cabinetry job I’m making, where these two CABINETRY doors that are about 22 inches wide by about 50 inches tall will be made out of a piece of quarter inch bead board and whatever I need on the backside to make up the thickness to allow for a pivot hinge. I plan to put solid wood on the top and the bottom, and then put the bead-board over the front of it so you don’t see the solid wood and that will allow me something to mortise the pivot hinge into.

I originally was going to use full, insert hinges, but the customer wants these batten board pieces to go vertically where the gaps would be. He doesn’t want to see any door gaps vertically, and therefore there will be a batten to the left, a batten to the right and one in the center that is attached to the one door.

His profession is being an engineer, and he drew up a pretty complex way of making the door move laterally from behind the batten and then rotate to open, but it is just going to be too much of a pain in the ass, so I’m trying to find a different way.

I’m looking for a pivot hinge that can be used on a door as thin as possible. Three-quarter inch or even 1 inch door would be great to use if the pivot hinge obviously is narrow enough, butt I can make it thicker. These doors will be concealing, a pantry space behind it.
About 3 inches of depth is what I have right now to allow the door to pivot because part of the area behind these operable doors, about 8 inches is a drywall wall, so I will need a pivot hinge that one rotated out will not take up more than about 3 inches from the center of the pivot. The vertical batten board the door talks behind it will be a three-quarter inch overlay.

I couldn’t find one by Rixon that would work, even if I had to go with a little thicker door. I’m not quite sure which one to use, as I have never done this type of application. I need it to be adjustable, laterally/vertically so I make sure things sit properly at the top and the bottom, because there is a cabinet above and a butcher block countertop below for people to sit at in the mud room. I am going to have to mortise the underside of the cabinet or add a 3/4” piece to the underside to give me more meat to mortise and screw into.

Are any of you able to provide me some links to pivot hardware that would work for this type of situation? It doesn’t need to be Rixon…. There will be about a 3/32 of an inch gap up top and below with no gaps in between because it will be hidden by the batten boards. The batten board on the left and the right will hide gap, as the door pivots behind a batten overlaying by 3/4” behind it when closed.
