Dehumidification H20 output monitoring

Putting home-built shipping container dehumidification dryer to work soon. Limited to finishing AD lumber btw 14-16% down to 6-8%. Unit seals very tight. I should be able to monitor drying rate by measuring water coming out of dehumidifier hose quite accurately by knowing oven dry weight of specie and starting % mc. Anyone doing this?

That's how I did it with my homebuilt dehumidification kiln. I ran a hose from the dehumidifier collection tank out the side and into a bucket. Weighed it twice a day and made sure the amount did not exceed the maximum allowed % MC loss/day for that species and thickness. Worked very well.

If you stay below 110F a household dehumidifier works fine with AD lumber. Above about 120F or with green lumber you need a higher end unit, like from EBAC, etc.

Answer to question about my dehumidifier and comments re: same.

I was fortunate to spot a " used" Phoenix " professional" dehumidifier. Used in quotes because the hour meter had 2 hours on it and the machine appeared unused. I bought it for $500 cash...a $2800 machine. With 2000 bf 1" pine at 14% mc and kiln avg temp of 95 deg. F i can pull out one 5 gallon bucket of h2o in 24 hours. As it gets drier, less water in same time period. The dehumidifier manual says not to exceed 105 f, so I aim for mid 90's, which, with wood heat, is always a range. In summer, with only solar, it can get very hot. I have seen 128 f, so I have concerns to keep the heat moderate or cook the dehumidifier.

This dehumidifier rocks, but not sure I'd want to pay the full, new, price given my modest kiln use. The Phoenix people are like Woodmizer support folks: completely indifferent if you bought their product new from them or used elsewhere...always full technical help with a smile.
