Although the trapped wetness cause between the sticker and lumber is cited or implied, only one solution is offered to use dry stickers. I had problems with sticker stain, but not now.
My solution is to restack /re-sticker the lumber after the first day or two. Coming off the saw, the wood is the wettest on the surface. I use 3/4 by 3/4 square stickers. After a day or two, I restack the pile, but rotate the stickers 90 degrees to a new spot on the wood stack. This now exposes both the wet faces of the sticker and the corresponding wet spot on the wood to the air. The sticker dry sides are now on an area of the wood that is also dry to the touch from being previously exposed to the air. Furthermore, this new location should be planned as the final sticker location next to the ends of the boards, evenly spaced along the stack, etc.
If you think about the slotted stickers, they are doing the same thing by not trapping water under the stick - essentially venting the water away.
If you still have problems, rotate sticks again back to original sides after they have been air dried a bit...or grab a new set of stick for the restacking. It all depends on your situation, wood, and climate.
I do realize this is more work, but will save the valuable wood. You can incorporate it into your movement process. it is worth the investment for me.
