Running small mouldings on a wadkin k23

Running into feed problems with a small moulding. We have one shape, square on 3 sides with a profile on top, that finishes at 1/4"H× 1/2"W. I think because of the small size I've been having trouble getting it to feed through the machine, especially while running white oak, other species are not as bad as the white oak. Does anyone have experience running small mouldings like that and any suggestions towards improving the feed?

If your machine has pressure rollers or feed wheels, make sure they're properly adjusted to provide sufficient pressure without damaging the material. Sometimes increasing the pressure slightly can help with feeding.

Not sure on the Wadkin but tiny stuff on any molder is tough. Quite tempermental, aggrevating and generally just a pain in the butt. Feed pressures have to be just right on everything, no knots or cross grain that will split. Basically perfect wood for something that small. I know I would charge more than the normal rate for that size of material. My thoughts on how I would run it, S4S thru the K23, then profile it on a woodmaster or some other top head only machine. Bed clearance of a profile knife is my big concern.

I'm not familiar with wadkins but I have several small profiles
( 5/16 × 11/16 ) that I run as 2 sided with a slitting saw on the bottom spindle to separate them.
Depending on the profile this may not work. I also run everything in long lengths.

On short runs I do this all on the shaper against an outboard fence. Sometimes I plane both sides to one of the finished dimensions then rip close and surface on the shaper. On the molder the trick it to start with 3/4” x3/4” stock then s3s (including the profile) then take the rest off the bottom with the last head.

Sounds like a glass bead we run from time to time. I made a double template to run them in a pair. Make a template so the thickest parts are on the outside and fence side, lowest part in the middle. Make a 1/8” flat between them to handle the heat and grind them to .260 thickness. You’ll be swinging it within .010 of the bed so be careful, the parts are still connected by a hair until your last head. Put a straight on your last bottom cleaning off the usual .020 and that will separate them. Still going to break once in a while but it will be greatly reduced while doubling the output.
